Explosion on Anspach Boulevard

A gas leak caused a major gas explosion in an apartment building at the Anspachlaan in the centre of Brussels. One flat was completely destroyed, it’s possible that the whole building will have to be demolished. 9 people were injured, with 3 sustaining heavy injuries.

Passengers Stranded On Train

A train carrying 800 passengers came to a standstill due to a tehcnical fault with the engine. The incident happened between Leuven and Liege later Friday afternoon. Around half of the passengers continued their journey after a replacement train pulled up alongside with the remaining passengers left to wait for the broken down train to be towed.

Eurozone Unemployment At A Record High

Unemployment in the eurozone has reached another record high according to the latest official figures. The seasonally-adjusted rate for April was 12.2%, up from 12.1% the month before. An extra 95,000 people were out of work in the 17 countries that use the euro, taking the total to 19.38 million.

60th Anniversary of Queens Corononation

Queen Elizabeth II will celebrate the 60th anniversary of her Coronation later today. In 1953, more than 8,200 guests witnessed the historic proceedings and an estimated 27 million people in Britain alone watched the events unfold on television. But today the 87-year-old monarch is spending the anniversary in private. She is expected to be at her favourite royal residence Windsor Castle, where she is likely to attend church at a private chapel within the estate.
