NATO Evacuated Due To Gas Leak

Part of NATO Headquarters had to be evacuated on Friday after a gas leak in a nearby street. Workers at companies based at a nearby business park were also evacuated. A road crew working on the Bourgetlaan hit a gas main while digging.

Goodbye FYRA

The board of the Belgian rail company NMBS is met on Friday to discuss the future of the high-speed train Fyra. It was decided that an order placed for three Fyra trains will be cancelled. The lack of a solution for the series of technical problems that have blighted the Fyra is blamed.

MEP Faces Racism Charges

French far right leader, Marine Le Pen, could face criminal charges for inciting racism according to the BBC. The French authorities opened a case against Mrs Le Pen in 2011 after she likened the sight of Muslims praying in the streets to the Nazi occupation of France. As a European Parliament member (MEP), she enjoyed immunity from prosecution. However, this protection was removed by a European parliamentary committee in a secret vote this week

Belgium Full Of Millionaires

There are about 147,500 millionaire families in Belgium, it transpires from the annual Global Wealth Report published by American firm Boston Consulting Group. The figure, which refers to millionaires in US dollars, represents 3.2% of Belgian households. Belgium is ranked 12th in the world, and No 1 in the European Union. Four in 100,000 Belgian families are regarded as ‘super rich’, with a private wealth of over $100m.
