From Monday 3rd June 2013, the application process will be centralised and British nationals in Belgium, in this instance, will submit their passport application to Her Majesty’s Passport Office in Durham in the UK. There will be no change to processing times.
This important change follows reviews by the National Audit Office and is designed to save money and also offer greater security and consistency in decision making.
(Prior to 3rd June, passport applications were sent to a regional processing hub in Paris, France. From 3 June, information on the UK Government website will advise British nationals on the new passport application process).
The fees will also be being looked at and it’s envisaged that the cost to provide such a passport will become closer in-line with costs if you were resident in the UK.
