Federal Deputy PM To Visit Turkey

The Federal Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister are currently visiting Turkey for two days to speak to Turkish officials and Turkish security services about Belgians that are involved in the current situation in Syria. Deputy PM Joëlle Milquet will meet representatives of the Syrian opposition and Turkish police on the first day.

 

Belgium-born Gotye Collects Four Billboard Awards

West Flanders born Gotye a.k.a Wouter De Backer scooped an amazing four awards at this year’s Billboard Awards. He was victorious in the categories of Top 100, Rock Song, Radio Song and Streaming song for his 2012 chart topper, “Somebody that I used to know.”

 

Belgian International In Ten Goal Thriller

Belgian international Romelu Lukaku racked up three goals in a thrilling end of season match against English Champions Manchester United. The 20-year old striker on loan to West Bromwich Albion scored three of the total five goals it took to make it a five-all draw at Sir Alex Ferguson’s final match of his career.

 

16-year Old Belgian Still Missing

A diver from Belgium is still confirmed missing from the Dutch province of Zeeland. Navy divers are continuing the search, however he has been missing for several days and the chance of survival is believed to be minimal.

Princess Elisabeth and her classmates have been learning about the Antarctic Research base that bears her name, at the Station Exhibition at Thurn & Taxis. She was accompanied by her father Crown Prince Filip.

Yahoo to Purchase Tumblr for 857m Euros

Yahoo is to purchase New York based blogging service Tumblr for 857 Euros in cash. David Karp’s position as CEO of Tumblr will continue. Chief Executive of Yahoo, Marissa Mayer described the deal as a “unique opportunity” and has promised “not to screw up.” Mr Karp is “elated” to have Yahoo’s support.

 

Tumblr is a simple combination of blogging and social networking that has attracted a large user base, however it has struggled to make money without advertising; with Yahoo, ads will be created that “are seamless and enhance the user experience.”
