Belgian interior minister Jan Jambon, has called for a fresh approach to be taken to counteract the threat of terrorism.
Speaking in the aftermath of the attacks in London at the weekend, Mr Jambon believes that pre-existing security cells could be the key to identifying radicalisation in it’s early stage. He added that new approach was needed due to terrorist cells now encouraging members of the public to carry out attacks, as a pose to training people themselves.
Mr Jambon said that “The cells are our eyes and ears out on the street. Headed by local mayors they exist in half of all municipalities”, and he now says that these local integration security cells could be rolled out across the remainder of country.
He also acknowledged the “tremendous” support being offered by the muslim community in Belgium and insisted that ” ‘We’ stands for everybody who wishes society well including Muslims.”
