EU records more deaths than births for first time

In 2015, and for the first time since its inauguration, the EU recorded more deaths than births.

However, the European population has increased due to the arrival of migrants, according to Eurostat.

5,226,500 deaths were recorded to 5,091,300 births in Europe in 2015. In Bulgaria, the crude death rate was highest (15.3 deaths per 1000 residents).

Belgium recorded a positive balance of 122,300 births to 110,500 deaths. Furthermore, Belgium recorded a resident growth of 7.2 per 1000.
