Hundreds of people are expected to gather at the Ancienne Belgique later today to pay tribute to the UK politician Jo Cox, who was tragically killed in an attack on the streets of her constituency of Batley and Spen last week.
Family and friends of the murdered MP are urging people to ‘love like Jo loved’ as they mark what would have been her 42nd birthday. Worldwide gatherings are taking place today (Wednesday) to honour the Labour politician, under the banner “More in Common – Celebrating the life of Jo Cox”, itself a tribute to her maiden speech in the House of Commons on her election as a member of parliament.
The Brussels event will feature music, poetry and speeches from a wide cross section of the community including a performance from Refugees Got Talent, A Brussels-based project founded by Sophie Querton, which brings together artists, musicians, writers, photographers and filmmakers from the refugee community.
Other events to will be taking place simultaneously around the world including London, Washington DC and Nairobi.
